Serpion 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2021 Greetings Brethren. Can anyone send me a link to where I could find information on the procedure for setting up a new Lodge in the Middlesex Province ? I have looked everywhere and found nothing for the Craft but lots for Mark. I have an idea of the costs and subs required but I need an application form and the steps required. I do not want my Secretary to get the wrong idea and the UGLE website has already in two occasions ignored my question even though I identified myself as a Freemason.... Mike Martin 143 Report post Posted June 16, 2021 The first thing that you will have to do is write to the Provincial Grand Lodge of Middlesex to see if it is allowing new Lodges to be consecrated as there was a moritorium put on new Lodges throughout the UGLE some years ago. Nowadays you have to explain why there is a need for a new Lodge, information about the Past Masters and others that will be the Founders and information about the Candidates that you have waiting for it to come about and explain why it will be successful etc. You may have noticed that over the last few years that the only new Lodges have been "special interest" Lodges such as the rugby, football, motoring, etc ones or under the District GLs.

Indeed this appears to be the case - and Number 10,000 was recently allocated to the "Young Masons" Lodge In Hampshire (I nearly forgot the "and Isle of Wight", sorry!) we now have the following (the last nine consecrated in Hampshire - and the only ones since 2004): 9878: Pax Hill Lodge (Scouting) 9896: Rugby Bastion Lodge 9903: Lodge of Brevity 9914: Chequered Flag Lodge (Motor racing) 9921: Football Lodge 9932: Spinnaker Lodge (Yachting) 9939: Motorcyclists Lodge 9953: Samuel Cody Aviation Lodge (ironically, not in Farnborough where Cody actually flew, but in Bordon?!) 9969: Vectis Services Lodge (Combined Services, on the IoW) On top of this, there are 7 Installed Masters Lodges... And a Country Sports Lodge to come - covid put paid to that consecration.
Sontaran 91 Report post Posted June 19, 2021 (edited) We've got 3 in the pipeline; a service lodge, a daylight Installed Masters lodge, and I can't remember what the 3rd is. And a couple of years ago, a Stewards lodge. The ProvGM is the instigator of all these. Edited June 19, 2021 by Sontaran

Sentience 64 Report post Posted June 21, 2021 You need to present to your own Province/District why there is a need for such a Lodge. What support there is from Brethren willing to be Founder members and basically put a business case forward. If satisfied that you have the necessary numbers to form a new Lodge and that there is such a need for it, your PGM submit your petition to UGLE for the ascent of the Grand Master. In this day and age, it is far easier and quicker to find a failing Lodge that is about to vote to surrender its Warrant and apply for its removal, effectively taking it over. We did just this to establish a Military Lodge, saving us a lot of time and expense with regards to Lodge equipment, regalia and furnishings, (not forgetting the Lodge banner costs which can be enormous) in the process.

Not to mention that the hall bookings are likely already in place and therefore no issues with trying to get space in an already likely fully booked calendar! Serpion 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2021 Dear Brethren, I am sorry I have been away from the forum. I have only just noticed that there had been more replies. I am interested in the admin procedure and documents, therefore : where do I find letter templates, forms, which office/person should I contact at the Province (Middx) ? The point about the taking over a failing Lodge is interesting but, again...how do I get that information, directly, myself ? Hopefully I will find out where I went wrong because at the bottom of this message it is shown I had elected to be notified of replies and yet .... Not quite so Uninitiated 11 Report post Posted July 5, 2021 Hi again, Serpion Your best bet, to answer all of these questions, is to talk with your Provincial Secretary - they can provide you with the necessary forms (and advice) both in terms of a new Lodge or even a target for take-over if any are deemed "failing". Bearing in mind that any application would have to go via your Provincial office, getting the ProvSec on side at the earliest opportunity will be a good idea! Sontaran 91 Report post Posted July 6, 2021 You need to contact the Provincial Secretary (I speak as a former ProvAGSec)
Sentience 64 Report post Posted July 7, 2021 Definitely speak to your ProvGSec. If you start doing any of this outside of the Provincial Execs authority, it will not be looked on favourably and almost certainly lead to failure. Your ProvGSec can find information of Lodges in nearby Districts that are looking to surrender their Warrant should you wish to go down the Removal route once authority to start the process to create a new Lodge has been agreed by the ProvGM.
